7 secrets of sunset face makeup

In this article, I will share with you my professional tricks on how to draw a sunset on your face. I will also tell you 7 simple secrets, thanks to which you can create beautiful drawings with your own hands. Forward!

1. Theory of focal points

So, have you ever wondered why sometimes even very simple designs look bright and catch the eye, while others, with all their elaboration and richness of colors, are clearly missing something? It is all about focal points and color harmony.

Focal points are special landmarks on the face that help determine the correct location and direction of both the design itself and its individual elements.

A face, unlike a sheet of paper, is a three-dimensional volumetric object, and the construction of drawings on it will differ depending on the place of application. Drawing on the face (and on the body) requires the ability to see an image in three-dimensional space. The design should become a face decoration, harmoniously emphasize its features, but not look like an applique (unless, of course, you are striving for just such an effect!).

Here are the focal points that I always use:

  • – Central frontal FP (or central forehead FP)
  • – Central FP (located on the bridge of the nose)
  • – FP chin
  • – FP of the outer corner of the eye (paired FP)
  • – FP of the inner corner of the eye (paired FP)
  • – Temporal FP (paired FP)
  • – Cheek FP (paired FP)

2. The combination of colors

Moving from balance in composition to color balance of sunset face makeup. Knowledge about the color wheel and color schemes will help us here. No need to reinvent the wheel – including the color wheel! You can choose color combinations from already known color schemes.

Here are some basic examples of color combinations in design:

  • – Analogue color schemes suggest one bright color that will balance the composition and make the design more vibrant.
  • – Complementary color schemes tend to be the most attractive because they combine colors that are on opposite sides of the color wheel.
  • – Split-complementary color schemes work the same as the previous schemes and attract the eye due to the contrast.

3. Light and shadow

In order for the simplest element to play in a new way and find liveliness and depth, follow one simple rule: the light is always on the opposite side of the shadow. Do not forget to add dark strokes and shadows on one side, and add highlights and accents on the other.

Over time, you will learn to make it harder to work with light and shadow, creating real 3D designs. Use the beauty of contrast: add highlights to the painted areas of the picture, but be careful – you can overlap the dark outline with them.

4. Paint consistency

Another disappointment that you have already experienced is the discrepancy between the brightness of the sunset face paint in the jar and its much less dramatic effect on the model’s face.

«Why suddenly such saturated colors of well-known and recommended brands do not work?! After all, I am doing everything right! »

«Why do my stencil patterns blur and stain the picture? »

«White lines are not white at all, but translucent on the skin, what am I doing wrong? »

Familiar questions? However, the whole thing is just a consistency.

5. Tidiness in drawing

Not only your tools and materials, but also you yourself should look neat and draw neatly. Your hands should always be clean, and the strokes in the drawing should be accurate. You will most likely end up with a dull and messy design if you smudge the design with random handprints or rub it with a careless motion.

Even experienced artisans are not immune to mistakes, especially if the model is very mobile, and such bloopers can be removed quite easily with a damp cloth or cotton swab. However, for less experienced artisans, such an oversight can cause nervousness, a feeling of insecurity and awkwardness in front of the client. In addition, the time it takes to correct the picture – you have to work pretty quickly on the stream and you should try to avoid such delays.

Only regular training and correct positioning of the hand achieve the necessary neatness and accuracy. Do not neglect the development of lines and basic elements on tablets, training heads, and vertical surfaces.

6. Keep your materials clean

If you already use the brands listed above in your work, but your designs still seem dull and drive you into melancholy, proceed to the next step – checking the materials you work with:

  • – Make sure that the surface of the paints is always clean, with no smudges or other pigments on the top coat.
  • – Use a special system (or several glasses of water) with several compartments: one for white, one for black and one for other colors. Moreover, do not forget to change the water often!
  • – Make sure brushes and sponges are rinsed well at home so that no pigment remains on them.

7. Brand matters

Some brands, such as Snazaroo and Kryolan, are less vibrant than others are. If you want your sunset face painting ideas to be in demand, then it is better to choose from professional brands – Global, TAG, Diamond FX, Cameleon, Superstar, Paradise (Mehron), Wolfe, Kryvaline or FPA.
